Project in Progress

  • Revising the TA system
Senior TAs are conducting a survey on the utilization of TAs and are establishing a support system for TAs

Senior TAs (STAs) are appointed from long-time TAs. They are conducting a comprehensive investigation on how TAs/CSs are being utilized under the current system and will produce a report of their findings, which will be shared with the faculty. Unlike senior TAs at universities outside Japan, STAs at ICU are not given the authority to oversee other TAs or intervene in the work of other TAs. STAs at ICU will plan TA seminars and workshops that are appropriate under the current TA/CS system. STAs also create templates for counseling (support, consulting, etc.) and will be responsible for TA development in the future.

  • UB Project
“Designing and implementing a new faculty development program for new faculty members designed to introduce faculty to teaching in a liberal arts college”
The aim of this project is to design, implement and evaluate a new faculty development program for new faculty members that is designed to introduce faculty to teaching in a liberal arts college. The program will comprise blended learning, online learning, and mobile learning. The program will target new faculty, part-time lecturers (PTLs) and teaching assistants (TAs) who need guidance and support. The program will cover teaching strategies, communication skills, and the innovative use of media and technology. Through this program, we hope that new teaching staff will be able to acquire the skills that are needed to teach effectively in a liberal arts college. It is hoped that the development of such skills will allow faculty members to inspire students to engage in intellectual inquiry.
